Spring 2009

Well, I finally registered for my last semester at Georgia Tech. Here’s what it’s going to look like:

Yes, that’s only seven hours. Now granted, this schedule only includes class, so there’s bound to be a few more appointments in there, but overall I’m really happy with the fact that there is no concrete reason for me to even get out of bed on Wednesday or Thursday. Not that I’m going to lay around all day, but the thought is nice. I’ll need a lot of that time to work on the thesis.

I’m also only taking 7 hours (2 classes) which means that I should have a relatively small amount of assignment work throughout the semester. I’ve found that the volume of assignments corresponds more closely to the number of classes you take than the number of hours.

Now I know there are those of you out there who are pissed that I’m only having to go to one class per day, and only three days of the week at that. So I’ll leave you with the picture of my classes from last spring, when I earned my reduced spring 2009 schedule by almost dying:

That doesn’t even include the outside appointments, which were extensive.

Some might argue that I should have spread out the classes over both semesters. My response to those people is simple: I remind them that, next semester, I don’t have to get out of bed on Wednesdays or Thursdays.

HP Loves Firefox

So I had to download some drivers from the HP website for my scanner tonight. I fired up Google chrome and went to good ol’ hp.com:

Now, as usual, there were some user interface issues with chrome. So I decide to switch over to firefox which gives me the following rendering:

And I’m like woah! Did I go to the same site? Sure enough, it’s the same hp.com address that I was viewing in chrome. So, with my curiousity peaked I load the site in Internet Explorer thinking that they must have a reduced version of the site for unrecognized browsers like chrome:

Apparently not. Interesting, the site available in chrome and IE appears most like the original site. I wonder if they are rolling out a new design, or if they just like firefox a lot more.

A Tasty Zelpuz

If you’ve ever played caranium then you will know what the title of this post is about. If you haven’t played then you should probably fix that at some point… Anyways, I recieved this tasty, and accurate treat today from a friend and thought it was good enough to share before it got eaten.

Those cookies were better than Tagalongs, which pretty much makes them the best cookies ever. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Georgia Tech moving to number 18 in the BCS standings.

I Voted!

Two guesses as to who I marked for the Presidential candidate.

Theology meets Javascript

At first I wasn’t sure I should even write about this, but it’s my blog and as long as I’m using the word “blog” I guess I can’t really consider myself above much of anything.

I came across the a neat tool while browsing the RE:LIT website and also saw it in action on Piper’s Desiring God. Basically it uses a small javascript applet to highlight scripture references like Psalm 121:1-8 automatically so the reader can pull it up within the context of the article without having to break and go to another site (or *gasp* pull out an actual Bible) to figure out what the reference says. It’s provided by Logos (a Bible software company that does not suck) and is available in several forms for the big CMS platforms out there as well as stand-alone. I’ve implemented the wordpress plugin so now when I say one of my favorite passages is Proverbs 3:5-6 you can immediately tell what sort of person I am… besides a complete dork.

Anyways, I’m going to stop now.

A Quick Update

So, for reasons briefly detailed elsewhere my web server and all the associated blogs/sites were down for pretty much all of last month. I would have fixed things earlier, but it’s been… busy. Here are a few of the things going on at this time:

  • Job Search (more on this later)
  • School/Research
  • Mold Remediation in the House (to the tune of $10,000)
  • Degree Petition!
Less recently I was involved in:
  • Moving Furniture Around in North Georgia (among other things)
  • Volunteering at Vertical Reality (Buckhead Church’s high school retreat)
Not really an exhaustive list, but I feel that the mere task of getting the websites working again is accomplishment enough for this evening.
